UAL Green Week 2013

The second of UAL’s Green Weeks runs 4-11 March. There are dozens of events running throughout the week on all of our sites. To see what’s on where visit the MyArts events pages and search for “Green Week 2013″.

With a plethora of options every day across the University, we have selected some highlights open to all staff and students:

Monday

Ebay Repair workshop with Thomas Thwaites 4 March 2013 10:00 –  16:00, LCC, Elephant and Castle. Read more

Swap Shop, 12-2pm, The Street. CSM, King’s Cross. Open to all UAL Students. Read more

Tuesday

Make the Nature Connection – A workshop to reconnect with nature. Lincoln’s Inn Field. During this short workshop you will learn to open your senses, attune with the invigorating power of nature and come to a deeper sense of connection. The workshop will be facilitated by Ecopsychologist Dr Adrian Harris. To book a place contact Antony Johnston a.johnston@arts.ac.uk

Activism Animation with Plane Stupid 11:00 to 16:00.  LCC, Elephant and Castle. Collaborative animation workshop with Leo, an acclaimed animator and environmental provocateur (The Age of Stupid, Wake Up, Freak Out – Then Get a Grip and Impossible Hamster). Read more

Wednesday

Intermission: LCF Film Club presents… Soylent Green. Staff Room, LCF, John Princes Street.  18:00 – 20:00. Read more

Sustaina Bar – sustainable bar night. 5.30 – 9.30pm. Theatre Bar, CSM, King’s Cross. Read more

Thursday

Super Swish – Clothing swap shop. CSM, King’s Cross, room C202. Supported by Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream. Open to UAL Students. Read more

MENDRS Mending Workshop. LCF, Lime Grove, Room B103, 14:00 – 17:00. MENDRS explores how mending can be made fundamental to fashion in a nationwide lecture tour of UK fashion colleges. Read more

Friday

MA Textiles Futures installation of a Mobile Greenhouse – part of a ‘Bio-manufacture’ project. The Street, CSM, King’s Cross. Open to all UAL Students. Read more

A screening of The Last Fisherman followed by Q&A with director Jack Price and commissioners, Greenpeace. LCC, Elephant and Castle. Read more

 

LCC Course Director:  Diploma in Professional Studies Personal & Professional Development Sarah Temple has suggested ten easy ways to act sustainably during Green Week:

1. Donate your old clothes to Traid bins for upcycling

2. Walk to work  on Tuesday 5 March and be part of a critical mass and a unique walking project – read more

3. Buy a Keepcup online and eliminate waste each week

4. Join the LCCCC (LCC cycling club)

5. Bring in old electrical items for Ebay Repair Challenge at LCC on Monday 4 March

6. Contribute a Green story or film to Arts London News Occupied Special to Russell Merryman

7. Have a meat free week and see how much money you can save

8. Support  Fish Friday campaign in the canteen

9. Join the new LCC Gureilla Gardening group – Thursday 7 March 2pm (Booking required)

10. Boycott buying expensive and environmentally damaging bottled water and refill old bottles
