Art Plus Fashion celebrated the fusion between Art and Fashion at the Whitechapel Gallery on Thursday 14 March 2013.

The Whitechapel Gallery’s Art Plus Party explores the dynamic mix of the visual arts with other cultural forms to raise money for the Gallery’s Education Programme.

Promoting new talent in fashion journalism, Harper’s Bazaar selected an outstanding writer from a short list nominated by Nilgin Yusuf and Andrew Tucker from LCF’s MA Fashion Journalism course. The joint winners – Ginger Clarke and Babette Radclyffe-Thomas – were announced on the night.

Harper’s Bazaar Editor-in-Chief Justine Picardie said,

“The winning entries highlighted two completely separate ways in which art and fashion collide. Babette focused on retailers and their use of art to sell fashion while Ginger’s elegant piece on fashion illustration looked at how artists respond to the catwalk. Their essays stood out from the crowd and, as we couldn’t choose between them, we decided to award two prizes. Congratulations to both of them”.

The evening included an auction which was followed by fashion shows featuring designs from RCA and CSM students. £348,600 was raised for the Whitechapel Gallery’s Education Programme which works with thousands of children and diverse community groups each year.
