The evening of February 12th saw the private view of London College of Fashion’s 2014 MA Exhibition.
Upon entering Victoria House, the low level blue lighting, grass-topped tables and eerie bird song set the tone for what is to come. Walking into the exhibition entrance, having pushed through the clear PVC strip curtain, you’re greeted with the beautiful work of the MA Fashion Artefact students. Immediately, you come across Ian Waller’s surrealist leather gloves that, at first glance, appear to be normal gloves. However, on closer inspection, they have been constructed in such a way that they could never be worn.

Moving through the exhibition, you’re brought face-to-face with the MA Fashion Footwear students’ work. The collection of work by Carolina Holzhuber contained impressive, carefully measured, seemingly impossible, mirror image shoes.
Next is the, ever remarkable, and widely varied constructions of the MA Fashion Design Technology Menswear and MA Fashion Design Technology Womenswear students. Quwada Tai’s (MA Fashion Design Technology Womenswear) use of miniature fashion dolls placed on and in her red-suited mannequin’s pockets and its Georgiana-style wig, add an extra dimension to her minimalist, tailored suit.
The exhibition continues, taking you into the diverse MA Fashion Photography section where the stunning, large-scale work of the student’s final project lines the walls of the gallery. Tussunee Roadjanarungtong’s bold ‘Flowers of Shanghai’ photography series presents seductive, darkly lit models situated in an opulent, almost sinister environment, provoking the viewer to imagine that the images are exposing them to a secret underground world of Shanghai.
Tucked away, but well worth visiting, was the work of a few students from the MA History and Culture of Fashion and MA Fashion Curation courses. Displayed on iPad’s and television screens, the students presented and explained their fascinating thesis synopses in Pecha-Kucha-style short films.
The MA14 exhibition has an incredibly diverse, impressive and expert range of work displayed, it would be impossible to cover all the exciting pieces featured in the show, because, evidently, London College of Fashion has produced another year of graduates with unbelievable levels of talent, flair and individuality.
