Kanye West has made no secret of his admiration for CSM – this term he sent 50 tickets for his London show to fashion students at the College before surprising MA Fashion Director Louise Wilson with a birthday shout out from the stage. Vogue report that Kanye paused mid-song to serenade Louise, announcing: “It’s Louise Wilson’s birthday tonight, an inspiration. . . Happy birthday to Louise, who taught Alexander McQueen, our friend Louise Goldin and Christopher Kane, Galliano, Phoebe Philo, Stella McCartney, and Kanye West—even though she doesn’t want me to put that on my résumé. “
Misunderstandings about famous alumni aside, Kanye continues to be a supporter of the College, which he encountered initially via Louise Goldin, wife of his manager Izvor Zivkovic; one of the hottest contemporary designers, Louise Goldin graduated from from all three CSM fashion courses – foundation, BA and MA.
